The club was established in 1883 and moved to the American Association in 1884. The Dodgers won 102 games and tied the San Francisco Giants for 1st place forcing a playoff for the pennant in 1962. The Dodgers beat the Yankees in the World Series and just two years later they swept the Minnesota Twins and attained their fourth World Series title.
The Dodgers attained the NL West titles in 1983 and 1985 sadly they lost the Championship Series in both these years. In 1988 Orel Hershiser pitched 59 successive scoreless innings to break a 20-year-old record that was set by Drysdale. After 1988, the team did not win another postseason game until 2004, however they did reach the playoffs in 1995 and 1996, and narrowly missed in 1991 and strike-cancelled 1994.
