How The Release Of Apple’s iPad Has An Unanticipated Upside To People Who Work Online
The debut of Apple’s iPad, though much postponed, is good news for anybody who’s job is for an Internet Business and means that they Work From Home. Most employees
engaged in such work will carry out much of their work is conducted in their house or apartment office, but sometimes there may be a need to be out of the office, mostly for meetings visits to clients.
Very often, if travelling by train, there is the chance of a free wifi connection so that one is able to perform Online Jobs which is ok for anyone using a laptop. But the recent events where an Icelandic volcano blew up and spewed hundreds of thousands of tonnes of ash high into the atmosphere have given a fascinating view, because what happened next was that, whenever the prevailing air currant was blown down over northern Europe and the Atlantic causing enormous disturbance to air travel.
For a large number this was a very happy incident and one to be greatly to be hoped for, if they found themselves marooned in vacation resorts and unable to return home, a bizarre piece of European regulation required the airlines to cover the cost their accommodation and three meals a day. It was intended to put a stop to airlines cancelling overnight flights, definately not for those marooned for days leading to weeks on end due to the authorities stopping all flights. After all, train companies, the worst offenders, do not face anything like the same kind of sanction when they cancel services, which they frequently do (including turning stopping trains into through services AFTER the train has left the first station but is running late).
But for some of those marooned, the circumstance was not so welcome. Those who are self employed found themselves unable to get home and for every day that they were away from work, they were not getting paid and monetary compensation wouldn’t be forthcoming since they were not covered by travel insurance.
However, for those who own or are employed by an Internet Business or have Online Jobs could find themselves in situationpacking the iPad into the hand luggage. Since it is small and very light, it is much more portable than an ordinary pc (other than a netbook, however they don’tcome with wifi), and since the iPad go to the beach.
Naturally the connection via a 3G link can be costly. It has been calculated that a 2 minute telephone call through Skype over a 3G connection can come to £5 (it’ll be free person-to-person on a wifi connection) but any expenditure incurred can at least be reclaimed at some point so there won’t be any long term shortfall of earnings.
I’m sure that the designers and marketers of the iPad didn’t see this as a met to decide what features they could put intoan excellent reason for buying one, and so answering one of the main questions that people ask about the iPad. Not ‘what is it for?’, alternatively ‘how much could it save its owner when there is an Act of God?’
